Instruction difficulties

The biggest issue I found while making an instructional booklet was consistency. One thing I need to work on with my booklet is consistent numbering as compared to what's in the table of contents. Most has to do with inconvenience of word and numbering. I changed my booklet so that the titles are all a, b, c in both table of contents and correct page but within each heading, the subheadings use i, ii, iii in the table of contents but when go to actual page they are 1, 2, 3. The 1, 2, 3 looks good and is easy to follow so its most likely something I will change in the table of contents. Everything just needs to flow a little better in mine. It is dificult to describe but this gets the gist of it accross. I thought pictures and screenshots would be good for mine, which they where, but I needed to limit them. There were too many pictures that were very close to eachother and didn't help the reader a whole lot or rather, they were't needed along with words. I limited the pictures and most are just what the screen should look like at starting points or to orient the reader in a given screen.

Emails, Texts, Memos, and Letters

These forms of communications are crucial to everyday life and mastering all of them is important but far from easy. The amount of emails people recieve each day can be astonishing. Some get put off for days and some are read quicker than others. Some are put in the trash before they are read. Without opening the email a subject line is all you have to read as well as the senders email. The emails that get read have the most urgent or most meaningful heading to the recipient. When the email is opened, content will vary dramatically based on the sender and the situation and topic. One thing I need to do better in my emailes is review the content because on more than one occasion I will type the email and send immediately and have forgotten material. That one email response turns into two unnecessary responses or questions if I've forgotten to ask of something. Reviewing emails is something I need to do more and pay more attention to what I am writing. Emails have been more of a casual thing up till now and as I get older and emails become different and addapt into a more frequent form of professional communication we need to be more conscious of the content. It doesn't look good to a boss if he is getting multiple emails on one topic or to a client. Rereading emails and making sure everything you want to ask or say is included at the fullest. I think this is all most essential and then comes the overall layout. The layout is also dependent on content. Not as important for quick back and forth but huge for emails with a lage amount of infomation that needs to flow in an east-to-read manner. OEmails are definitely one that needs most attention by people and this also would cover letters for for the most part.

Conciseness does not equal brevity

In this chapter on Achieving a Readable Style was verb usage and sentence length. My writing style usually ends up consisting of run on sentences that are too wordy and I end up needing to clean them up and have the same point get across in under 15 words or use multiple sentences. Especially in explanations of things my sentences tend to be somewhat wordy. My writing also usually lacks verbs within the sentences and is definitely something I will be more conscious off in making a more enjoyable read.
In one of the note fields the book mentions that "conciseness does not equal brevity." One thing I need to again, be more conscious of, and as do many others, is making sure when you do edit sentences down that they concise and not brief. This can be tricky because when trimming your sentence down, you are sometimes making it much more brief when you think its more concise. The difference being that now the sentence doesn't get the same point across or may be missing more support for the sentence to make full sense. Brevity usually lacks completeness to the sentence and all of this is something else I will be paying attention to more.

Font and color

In my document from delta airlines the fint is consisted throughout and in all emails from this company remain the same as well. The headings for each topic are bold and easy to find making scanning of the document very easy. The color is minimal but makes for an effective document. At the top the documents consistently have a black and white picture of Atlanta where the Delta hub is with the red Delta logo. The document style used makes for a very professional. White space within the font and around the font makes for an easy to read and easy to scan document with black on white writing.
